What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy was founded by Dr Samuel Hahnemann, in Germany in 1796. It is based on the principle of ‘let like cure likes’. When peeling an onion, your eyes start to water, your nose starts to run and you may sneeze. In Homeopathy, a preparation made from onion (Allium cepa) can be used to treat someone with those symptoms

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture uses specific points, found on meridians, to treat various illnesses. According to Chinese Medicine, your body’s vital energy, known as Qi (Chi), flows through different meridians at different times. When there is an imbalance, i.e. too much or too little energy, a blockage results. In order to remove the blockage, needles are used at specific point. Some people may have a lack of qi in certain areas, in this case moxibustion (heating with Artemisia vulgaris) may be beneficial.

What is Phytotherapy?

It is also known as Western Herbalism, refers to the use of plants and plant part in the treatment and prevention of illnesses. This is an exciting field, as there is much clinical research happening into plants and their effects. Many active ingredients from plants are the basis for a number of conventional therapies, e.g. salicylic acid from the Willow tree is the starting material for aspirin, and alkaloids from the Madagascar periwinkle, such as vincristine and vinblastine, are used in chemotherapy.
